I've had a ratchet mechanism fail after a couple decades, and it was...

...nice to walk into a Sears and exchange it for a new one, no questions asked.

One thing I was disappointed with Sears was that they would hide portable tool kits that are just metric (or standard). If you're taking a trip in a Japanese or European automobile, you don't want a kit that has tools you'll never use. I found a Craftsman "metric only" kit when I was in Pensacola a couple decades ago, and take it on almost every road trip. I have since found a second Craftsman (metric-only) tool box at my local Sears when they were closing it's doors about 10 years ago. It is a smaller set than my original one, so I'll have to bring extra tools like combo wrenches and screwdrivers.
